Above Ground Pool:  Generally round or oval in shape and may not be burried below the Earth's surface. 

Onground Pool:  Generally rectangle in shape with decking and fencing included.  May be partially burried below Earth's surface.

Inground Pool:  May be custom shaped and is burried or poured below Earth's surface.
